The Kansas Soldiers' Home (KSH) is located in Fort Dodge, Ford County, Kansas, about five miles east of Dodge City on Highway 400 (formerly Highway 154). Founded in 1865, Fort Dodge is the oldest permanent settlement in this part of Kansas. Originally established as a U.S. Army post to protect travelers on the Santa Fe Trail, it played a crucial role as a supply and rest station for traders and bison hunters. The fort covers 752 acres and is situated 152 miles from the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
